1971 Datsun 510 Wagon

Had a chat with the owner, who is a part of a local club dedicated to the 510. Wheels are from a newer Nissan, which certainly give it an aggressive look. He also did a lot of repair/replacement to the suspension. Is particularly proud that this car has a rare original tachometer.

Love the slightly arched chrome over the headlights, giving it that slightly angry look, the simple chrome doors handles, the way the outside mirror hooks back in the profile shot, the little chrome strip below the doors, the flat glass everywhere except the windshield.

Owner said he had been looking for a car like it for 20 years.

Love the perfectly flat windshield, which tries to make up for it by having a continuously curved edge, drooping at the sides. The tiny wipers, the bulge around the headlights, the heavily blemished yet polished paint, the tiny turn indicators, the way the rear vents cup the small rear window (which matches the tiny rear view mirror), the peculiar mounting of the antenna, the artificial white rose next to the chrome radio grille. The roof and "A" pillars are a single stamped unit, and it extends all the way back to meet the engine cover, where the patina is revealed to be slightly different. The licence plate light could have come from a Fiat 500.

That Wolfsburg badge looks ceramic.

1979 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce

Love the subtle yellow, the very low beltline, the sleek, interesting door pulls, the shut lines which go nowhere near the base of the body, the intricate wheels, the almost flat rear deck, the sculpted lines leading from the front wheel all the way back, the way the headlights are elegantly carved into the fenders. I could look at those headlights all day.

#6 was unfortunately shot later, in harsh light. But it shows the gauges which swivel in the center of the dash, the Blaupunkt, and the large circular spedo & tach. Wood & metal steering wheel is interesting too.

I think it is pronounced "ve-LO-che".

Where have we seen that green Jaguar before?
