1968 Dodge Dart GT Convertible

Owner is a nice guy -- the practical sort. Said most of the damage on the passenger side is from an attempt to steal the car. He bought it from a relative who already had it painted pink.

Ah that leather wrapped steering wheel! And all that shiny black leather and chrome inside, particularly the transmission tunnel. Just the right amount of chrome for a sporty car of the era. That pugnacious appearance -- sharp edges front and rear, fenders and hood extending forward just beyond the headlights & mostly blacked out grille. Style cues from larger Dodges, but still stands well on it's own.

1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham

This car is not what you think of when you think "Cutlass".

This strange mule is just the sort of hidden classic that should be celebrated:
- The clever little vent window in the rear door, to make up for the fact that the larger window does not roll down.
- the odd collision of style -- a front end looking like a full sized Olds, the backend still looking like a Cutlass.
- the long rear overhang, which still looks small because the front looks full sized.
- the small looking wheels, tires and exterior mirrors.
- the pillow like seats trying to communicate luxury.

Yet the formal roof line is not awful, and they tried to add some class with the accent lights on the "C" pillars. And the shut line of the rear door blends into the fender bulge.

1991 Nissan Figaro

Finally, the last of the Pike Factory Nissans (at least if you ignore the BE-1). Interesting features; The minimal chrome bumpers which turn into a chrome strips between the front and rear wheels, the tear drop side turn indicators, the deep set tailights, the almost all white dash and interior, the continuous chrome strip from each headlight all the way to the rear bumper, the ridiculously thick rear pillars.

This example has side marker lights installed at each corner -- not something I've seen on other Figaros.

1972 BMW 2002

Many -- including me -- thought this a dumpy little car when it was new. Hey, where's the fastback? the big engine? the swoopy design?  Of course we all know how that worked out.

Love the three segment circular tailights, hood and trunk shutlines that merge with the chrome strip, simple and purposeful controls, classic grille & headlights, the over all "box leaning forward" shape. Features which were basically unchanged for more than a decade.

The badge on the grille says "Automóvil Club Argentino".

1988 Toyota 4Runner SR5

What makes this truck particularly interesting is the removable roof. With the roof off (which I have almost never seen)  the entire area behind the front seats is uncovered, which is probably a blast for anyone in the back seat.

Also turns it into a sort of pickup if the rear seats are removed. However one might be concerned that the load could crash into the people in the front seats on a sudden stop.

Toyotas were the among prototypical modern SUVs. A sleek appearance blended with those (unnecessarily) large & aggressive fenders. This truck has few luxuries, maximum utility and reliability.

1949 (?) Chevrolet/GMC Tow Truck + 1971 Dodge Demon 340 + Ford Model A?

On a bright sunny day I found these cars while wandering down a back alley. I went around front and knocked on the door of the house. The woman who answered was slightly annoyed. Apparently I was at the wrong house, and these cars were perhaps a sore point for her. I beat a hasty retreat next door, where the owner was not home. So now I am left guessing...

The Model "A" is just barely recognizable, and does not really qualify as a car. Amusing that one of the items holding it off the ground is a coffee machine.

Love the improvised bumper on the truck, which at some point might have been blue, and the bulbous fenders & hood.

The Dodge looks like a sleek spaceship when in the company of these others. Would have loved to get a shot of the eight (!) tailight lenses and four reverse light lenses. Love the dual ridges in the hood, the nicely faded paint, the continuous shape of the side windows, the dynamic "C" pillar.
