1976 Austin Mini 1000

A break from big American iron.

The profile offers some inspiration -- that odd sort of "bustle" below the rear window, perhaps to expand the microscopic trunk. And the oddly sensuous shape of the front fender, which is unexpectedly elegant. I've seen that sort of bracing on the front of a Mini before, but have no idea what it's for.

1971 Ford Maverick 4 Door

I was severely tempted to tag this "malaise", it would completely fit but this car pre-dates the era.

Oh that yellow! Has to be original (though repainted). Note also the lock mechanism hanging out of the door, the oddly sharp ridge running the length of the side, those dark/bright hubcaps. And the profile is so like a Challenger/Barracuda, though a Maverick is as similar to those as it is to the cars that surround this example.

1975 Honda Civic

How often do you see a restored Honda? This one has the (I think) rare trunk option instead of the hatchback. A brother of mine had an excellent red hatchback of the same year.

Love the stubby front and rear overhangs allowing the absolute maximum use of available space, while still trying to communicate sportiness with the sloping hood and rear window, bulging fenders. Front turn indicators stand free of the grille. Chromed exterior hinges on the trunk. German utility with a Japanese sensibility.

1979 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce

Love the subtle yellow, the very low beltline, the sleek, interesting door pulls, the shut lines which go nowhere near the base of the body, the intricate wheels, the almost flat rear deck, the sculpted lines leading from the front wheel all the way back, the way the headlights are elegantly carved into the fenders. I could look at those headlights all day.

#6 was unfortunately shot later, in harsh light. But it shows the gauges which swivel in the center of the dash, the Blaupunkt, and the large circular spedo & tach. Wood & metal steering wheel is interesting too.

I think it is pronounced "ve-LO-che".

Where have we seen that green Jaguar before?
