1976 Austin Mini 1000

A break from big American iron.

The profile offers some inspiration -- that odd sort of "bustle" below the rear window, perhaps to expand the microscopic trunk. And the oddly sensuous shape of the front fender, which is unexpectedly elegant. I've seen that sort of bracing on the front of a Mini before, but have no idea what it's for.

Those bumpers were only for the '75 to '80 (last year) Cdn minis, the equivalent of the rubber bumper MGBs, the rear one is, the front one is not, its in on one side. In regards to the trunk, contrary to popular belief the design team actually did want to make a quasi hatchback out of these, they had already with the A40 Farina countryman. But the ever conservative BMC management figured it would be too many revolutionary ideas in one car and would somehow put off the buying public.

Also it is a 1976 - I own it, so I should know. Found this post while looking for a specific picture of a different model Mini..
