1987 Toyota Celica GT

Once in a while a manufacturer hits a peak in their design and engineering. This is what I think happened with Toyota and the Celica. Here was a not-too-expensive, reliable, attractive, sporty car that sold well. Then the market changed, or management decided they wanted to go after the high end, or ... something. Regardless, this car is an example of the late peak period of the Celica -- a great smooth shape that still managed to be a good car as well.

1968 Volvo 122

When I was growing up I saw these Volvos as ugly. Why would anyone make a car like that, much less buy one? Now I wonder at their interesting design. Much like the VW Beetle, it remained unchanged for so long because it performed it's function stylishly and effectively. Doubt this car has ever been restored, just repaired and driven.

Love the front end that looks so long nowadays on a car so short, the small looking cab above the beltline, and the architecture of curves.

1989 Nissan Pao

Another quirky Japan only car. All those deliberately retro features; that muted aluminum inside and out, exposed hinges, folding windows. I suppose a cassette player is not so odd in a car of this vintage. I could not resist a head on shot of the grille and that quizzical front end.

Still keeping an eye out for a Nissan Figaro.

1976 Chevrolet Custom Deluxe 20

Still working after 40 years. Looks like it's been painted a few times, just one dog dish left, but those 8 lug steel wheels are still hanging in.
